Birmingham Metropolitan College is one of the leading providers of further and higher education in the West Midlands providing a wide range of education and training programmes in central and north Birmingham.
The majority of their students attend one of the three main campuses; Mathew Boulton campus at Eastside near the centre of Birmingham, Sutton Coldfield campus in the North East of the city and James Watt Campus at Great Barr which is in the North of Birmingham. The College has focused on providing all of its students with excellent learning environments and students at the Matthew Boulton campus study at the RIBA award winning modern purpose built building, whilst the Sutton Coldfield and James Watt campuses have undergone major refurbishments in the past two years and now provide outstanding facilities for their students. Their satellite training centres also offer training programmes within local communities to widen participation among non-traditional learners.
Birmingham Metropolitan College enrol students onto academic and vocational courses from a wide range of social backgrounds and geographical areas. Every year the College recruits around 8,000 full-time 16-19 learners and over 30,000 full and part time adult learners. METtraining, the Business Directorate of the College deliver a wide portfolio of workforce training throughout the United Kingdom. They work in partnership with some major employers including BHSF, BMW, Busy Bees Nurseries, Cadbury, Carewatch, Deutsche Bank, E-On, Ministry of Justice, Mitie, Sky Digital, Samsung, University Hospital Birmingham Trust and West Midlands Police.
As well as improving the education and training of the people of the West Midlands, Birmingham Metropolitan College also makes a significant contribution to the West Midlands economy, employing over 1,100 teaching and support staff.
Birmingham Metropolitan College has been recognised as a provider of high quality education and training, and have received many National Awards in recognition of the quality of education and training they provide.
The Training Quality Standard was awarded to the College in February 2010. This award kitemarks their excellence for employer responsive training. They were also awarded the coveted status of Financial Services Academy by the Institute of Financial Services in recognition of the pivotal role they play in ensuring that people across the West Midlands have the skills they need to maintain the region’s rapid growth in the field of financial services. Their MET Academy of Business and Enterprise provides young learners with an opportunity to engage in enterprise activities. In the initiative’s fourth year, it is estimated that over 5,000 learners will have taken part in enterprise activities. The College have recently been invited to be members of the National Skills Academy for Food and Drink and were also awarded the status of National Skills Academy for Manufacturing for the excellence of their provision in engineering and manufacturing. The International team were awarded with British Council Accreditation which recognised their excellence in delivering a world class facility for international students.
