Brindleyplace’s latest bar and restaurant, set to open this Autumn on the award winning estate, will be named Nuvo.

The winning name was chosen following an online competition run in conjunction with professional organisations Birmingham Future and Birmingham Forward to find a name for the landmark bar.

Nuvo is a combination of two entries – Nucleus and Novu – submitted by Lisa Clark of HBJ Gateley Wareing LLP and Bryan Manley-Green of Alchemy Translations.  The entries combine to form a play on the word ‘nouveau’ which means something new, exciting and different.

Announced at Birmingham Future’s recent AGM, held last Thursday at Eleven Brindleyplace, the building within which the new bar and restaurant will be situated, Nuvo was selected after much deliberation by the bar’s owners Chris and Cos Papachristoforou and members of Argent, the company behind Brindleyplace.

“The Brindleyplace estate is a firm favourite among city professionals for both business and socialising and the opportunity to name our latest bar and restaurant was something we wanted to give back to that community,” commented Gary Taylor, joint managing director for Argent.  “Over 100 competition entries were received and their originality and diversity certainly reflected the degree of creative minds we have working in Birmingham.  We’ve chosen a name which we are confident will not easily be forgotten and should ensure Nuvo quickly becomes synonymous with sophisticated socialising in the city.”

Cos Papachristoforou added: “Nuvo is the perfect fit for our latest Birmingham venture and a name which reflects this new and different venue. Birmingham Future and Forward members really embraced the opportunity to get involved in the naming competition and we hope they will come back and see how the concept for the bar, which was shared with them as part of the competition, has been transformed into reality when we open later this year.”

Already experienced restaurateurs in Brindleyplace, Chris and Cos Papachristoforou currently run award winning Cielo and Edmunds, the latter in partnership with chef patron, Andy Waters.  The brothers have secured 5477 sq ft of prime ground floor space within the curved facade of Eleven Brindleyplace for the creation of Nuvo.

Designed to appeal to a sophisticated clientele, the space is set to be transformed into a signature split level bar, offering a relaxed Mediterranean mezze-style menu alongside a wide range of drinks from premium champagne brands to fine wines, world class cocktails and specialist beers.  The split level design of the bar will allow for up to 100 covers downstairs and 120 upstairs, with the capacity to host events across both levels for up to 500 guests.

The building’s architect, Glenn Howells, has been retained by Argent to ensure Nuvo is synonymous with the building’s landmark design and the company is delighted to be working with leading local experts to progress the bar concept.

Birmingham based Suzanne Barnes Design Partnership has been working with Glenn Howells to make certain Nuvo’s interior offers an exclusive lounge environment that reflects the bar’s emphasis on excellence in service, premium cuvee brands and an informal gourmet menu.

The fit-out of Nuvo is currently underway with an official launch expected this Autumn.
