BYPY judging day is a truly frenetic experience and with nerves and adrenaline both running high, the energy in the air is palpable. The day begins at 7.30am, with the arrival of the committee, followed by the judging panel at 8am. Glenn Howells was the first judge through the doors this year, arriving at Malmaison ahead of schedule and spending some time giving the candidates’ nomination forms a final appraisal.
After some hastily drunk coffee and a round of delicious Danish pastries, kindly provided by this year’s hosts Malmaison, it was time for the interviews to begin. With 18 candidates to get through, the panel and the committee were in for a long but enjoyable day.
By the end of the process the judges and the committee chairman, Bina Ganatra, were in the know as to who had won each sector and more importantly, who would be crowned the BYPY 2011 winner. The rest of us will just have to wait for the big night!
