Following completion of his college years Chris made the conscious decision to commence a career which played to his enthusiasm for design. He started as a draughtsman, initially hand drawing, and then progressing into computer aided design and eventually into estimating and specifying, obtaining the position of Design Manager for the modular telecommunications sector.

Expanding his knowledge base into project management he presented himself to Mace, and the city of Birmingham. Chris was positioned to replace a predecessor at the NEC, although initially he was directed into supporting a colleague in the finalisation of works at Burton Hospital. Not wanting to pass by the opportunity to lead the project(s) within the NEC, he chose to work there during the day and at Burton Hospital during the night for 4-weeks.
